Uncloaking the Tarot by Brigid Bishop, A Brief Excerpt

The High Priestess is my natural card, my significator, here is a brief excerpt from my book that I hope helps you to understand this mysterious card in a much deeper way.
Universal Waite Deck
Excerpt from “Uncloaking the Tarot“, by Brigid Bishop, copyright 2001The High Priestess is symbolic of the esoteric, hidden meanings, secrets yet to be revealed, the numeral 2 (duality), the letter Gimel, an extremely complex and spiritual card. This card vibrates to the powers and attributes of the Moon.  Cancer is ruled by the moon, think of the secrets the depths of the oceans hold, this is the depth of the High Priestess.  The wisdom of the ocean is the wisdom of this archetypical image, having birthed all life, the original source of the genesis of man, thus, the omni mother of all earth.

Emotive, yet secretive, withdrawn, perhaps hidden, cyclical, feminine, balance, physical abstinence.  When this card appears in a spread, there are deeper hidden influences governing the situation.  The High Priestess is celibate, so physical desire is absent regarding the divination of this card.

The High Priestess is host to hidden knowledge that at times we are not yet meant to know, making the interpretation of this card very difficult.  She is wise and balanced, as represented by her being situated between the 2 pillars which are symbolic of Boaz and Jachin (B & J), the colors of black and white, the eternal balancing of opposing natures, male and female, yin and yang.  She has control over the four elements of fire, earth, air and water, reflected in the cross she wears (note the cross is of equal lengths, unlike the Christian crucifix).

The scroll she holds is the Akasha, believed to be the record of the collective unconscious, of all that ever was or will be, and all we ever were or will be.  The water of knowledge flows at her feet and runs throughout the entire deck of Tarot Cards.  She indeed is a potent card, and when she appears in a spread, close attention must be paid to the cards that surround her.

When the High Priestess is active in a spread, more information exists that the Querent is not yet aware of.  At times we are not given all the information concerning a situation, as we are not yet prepared to process it.  Be aware that more knowledge will be forthcoming over time when the High Priestess is present.
